A September festival in the mountain village of Khachik centred on the world's largest gata, a sweet layered bread reaching over four metres in diameter, drawing more than 5,000 visitors for folk dance, games and visits to a medieval church and a celebrated poet's house-museum.

Gata Festival transforms the small village of Khachik in Armenia's Vayots Dzor region into the centre of national attention each September, drawing more than five thousand visitors specifically to witness and taste the world's largest gata, a sweet layered bread filled with khoriz, a rich mixture of flour, butter and sugar that stands among the most cherished decorations on any Armenian table.
