Spanish Wells Fisherman's Fest

Spanish Wells Fisherman's Fest, held over a mid-July weekend on this historically Loyalist-descended cay off northern Eleuthera, honors the community's spiny lobster fishing fleet, one of the largest in the Bahamas, through food stalls, live music and public celebration of the working boats and crews. The event highlights a genuinely distinct thread of Bahamian culture shaped by centuries of fishing tradition rather than the Junkanoo heritage found elsewhere in the archipelago.

Spanish Wells occupies a small cay off the northern tip of Eleuthera, settled centuries ago by Loyalist families who fled the American Revolution, and it remains one of the most distinct communities in the Bahamas: overwhelmingly white, historically insular, and economically built almost entirely around one of the country's largest and most productive spiny lobster fleets.
