Kobi Jasimuddin Mela in Faridpur
A month-long village fair on the Kumar River in Faridpur, built around the grave and homestead of Jasimuddin, Bangladesh's 'rural poet'. Expect grave visitation, literary discussion sessions and poetry readings alongside an informal riverside fair - a slower, more local alternative to Dhaka's literary calendar.
Jasimuddin, Bengal's 'Polli Kobi' (folk poet), asked to be buried on the bank of the Kumar River, beside his grandmother's grave in his home village of Gobindapur - and that exact site, in the Ambikapur union of Faridpur Sadar, is where his memorial mela has gathered every year since 1988.
