Chocolate Festival of Belize in Punta Gorda/Toledo

Toledo District grows most of Belize's cacao, and Punta Gorda, self-styled as the country's chocolate capital, hosts the festival built around that harvest each May. Farm tours, bean-to-bar demonstrations, cooking competitions and a street fete fill three days, alongside a wine and chocolate gala and a cacao-community football match in nearby San Pedro Columbia. The festival began in 2007 as a showcase for local cacao farmers and small-batch chocolate makers.

Punta Gorda carries the informal title of chocolate capital of Belize, and the three-day festival built around that claim traces back to 2007, when cacao farmers and small-batch chocolate makers in Toledo District organized what they first called the Toledo Cacao Festival.
