Bermuda Biennial in Bermuda National Gallery
The Bermuda Biennial is the island's flagship juried exhibition of contemporary art, organized by the Bermuda National Gallery since its founding edition in 1994. Held every two years inside the gallery's Hamilton premises, it gathers work by Bermudian artists and international artists living on the island, selected through a jury process led by curators drawn from institutions such as the National Gallery of Jamaica, the Chicago Art Institute and the Smithsonian.
The Bermuda National Gallery opened in 1992 with a mission to promote awareness of Bermudian and world visual art, and two years later it launched the first Bermuda Biennial, with a jury led by Janet Fish, the contemporary American painter who grew up in Bermuda.
