The story

Bermuda Pride in Hamilton

Bermuda Pride began in 2019 with the island's first-ever Pride parade, when roughly six thousand people, close to a tenth of Bermuda's population, marched from Victoria Park through central Hamilton under the theme We Belong. Organized by OUTBermuda, the annual march and its surrounding events have continued since, with each edition carrying its own theme and again assembling at Victoria Park before heading through the City of Hamilton.

Bermuda held its first-ever Pride parade on August 31, 2019, when an estimated six thousand people, close to ten percent of the island's population, gathered in Hamilton for a march that organizers and participants alike described as historic.

What is special

The part that makes it specific.

01

The place changes

Bermuda Pride carries particular weight because of how recently it began: the island's first parade in 2019 was a genuinely new public event rather than the continuation of a decades-old tradition, and the scale of that first turnout, an estimated tenth of the entire population, gave it an outsized local significance from the outset

02

The mystery stays covered

Because Bermuda is a small British Overseas Territory where LGBTQ+ legal protections have been actively contested in court in the same period the event has run, the march functions as visible advocacy as much as celebration, and OUTBermuda's practice of setting a fresh annual theme keeps each year's event tied to a specific message rather than repeating a fixed format
