Letlhafula Traditional Food Festival in Gaborone
Letlhafula Traditional Food Festival takes its name from the Setswana word for harvest season and celebrates indigenous Botswana cuisine in Gaborone, bringing together home cooks, small producers and cultural groups around dishes built on sorghum, millet, morogo, dried meat and other staples of the traditional Setswana table rather than the modern restaurant fare more commonly promoted at food events.
Letlhafula takes its name directly from the Setswana word for the harvest season, the period after crops such as sorghum, maize, melons and beans are gathered in, traditionally marked by community meals, thanksgiving and the preparation of dishes built around the new harvest.
