The story

Jundiai Grape Festival in Jundiai

Jundiaí's Festa da Uva began in 1934 after a spontaneous grape mutation produced the niágara rosada variety in the city's Traviú district, and it has run from the dedicated Parque da Uva since 1953. Now combined with Expo Vinhos since 2013, the multi-week January-February event mixes grape sales, wine tastings and produce stalls with a full concert and cultural program.

A spontaneous genetic mutation in a Jundiaí vineyard in 1933 produced the niágara rosada grape variety, and almost by accident, that discovery in the Traviú district launched one of São Paulo state's oldest agricultural festivals.

What is special

The part that makes it specific.

01

The place changes

Few Brazilian agricultural festivals have as direct a link between a single scientific event and a century-long celebration: the niágara rosada mutation that founded Jundiaí's grape industry in 1933 still defines the fruit sold at the festival today

02

The mystery stays covered

Having its own purpose-built park since 1953, rather than borrowed civic space, has let the event grow into a genuinely large multi-week program rather than a single weekend fair

03

The city starts moving

Merging with Expo Vinhos in 2013 broadened the festival from table grapes into the region's growing wine industry, giving visitors both fresh-fruit shopping and tastings from local producers in the same visit
