The story

Fiesta Costumbrista de Linares in Linares

Fiesta Costumbrista de Linares is a late-April harvest fair staged on the grounds of Linares' former Iansa sugar plant, known as Bosque 719. Its centrepiece is a trilla a yegua suelta, a traditional wheat-threshing demonstration using loose mares, set alongside roasted-meat stalls, regional wine and craft-beer tastings, folk music and family games in Chile's Maule wine country.

Linares holds its costumbrista fair each April on the grounds of the former Iansa sugar refinery, a site known locally as Bosque 719 that the city has turned into an open-air showground for one of the Maule Region's harvest-season fairs.

What is special

The part that makes it specific.

01

The place changes

The trilla a yegua suelta is the feature that separates Linares from generic food-and-music costumbrista fairs: a working demonstration of loose mares driven over threshed wheat to separate grain from straw, a technique that has largely disappeared from Maule's working farms but is preserved here as a public event rather than a private harvest chore

02

The mystery stays covered

The venue adds a second distinguishing note - a former sugar-processing plant site, Bosque 719, repurposed as an open-air showground rather than a town square

03

The city starts moving

Its late-April date, after most Maule costumbrista fairs have already run, also gives it a distinct, cooler-weather slot on the region's festival calendar
