Changsha Orange Isle Fireworks Festival in Changsha/Orange Isle
Changsha's Juzizhou, or Orange Isle, a narrow river islet in the Xiang River overlooked by a giant granite bust of the young Mao Zedong, has periodically hosted large public fireworks displays marketed to residents and tourists as part of the city's identity as a fireworks and entertainment hub. Shows have historically run on selected summer evenings rather than a single fixed festival week.
Orange Isle sits in the middle of the Xiang River like a long green spine, and its most recognizable landmark, a monumental granite carving of Mao Zedong's youthful head, ties the islet to 1925, when the future revolutionary leader wrote a poem here reflecting on the river and his home province.
