Chengdu International Panda Lantern Festival in Chengdu
Chengdu's International Panda Lantern Festival lights a themed route with over 20,000 individual lanterns each winter, tracing its roots to a city lantern festival first held in 1962. Recent editions have combined traditional panda-themed lantern craft with digital light displays and interactive gameplay, moving venue between editions, from Jiangtan Park to Xifeng Island on Dong'an Lake.
Twenty thousand lanterns built around pandas, light and shadow lit up Jiangtan Park for a recent staging of Chengdu's lantern festival, a run that traces its lineage back to a city lantern festival first established in 1962, making it one of the longest continuously staged city-level lantern festivals in China.
