Heartland Festival in Kvaerndrup
Heartland Festival stages three days each June in the gardens of Egeskov Castle on Funen, treating music, contemporary art, talks and gastronomy as four equal pillars rather than a music lineup with extras. Founded in 2014 and capped at roughly 6,000 daily attendees, it positions itself as a boutique, design-conscious alternative to Denmark's larger farmland festivals.
Egeskov Castle, a moated Renaissance castle on the island of Funen widely described as one of the best-preserved of its kind in Europe, provides the backdrop for Heartland Festival, a curated event that treats music as only one of four equal pillars alongside contemporary art, talks and gastronomy.
