The story

Djibouti International Trade and Culture Fair in Djibouti City

The Foire Internationale de Djibouti fills the purpose-built Red Sea World exhibition centre with roughly 200 exhibitors from across Africa, the Middle East and Asia, presenting shipping, logistics and agricultural business alongside Afar and Somali craft stalls and traditional performance. It is Djibouti's largest trade fair, run over about ten days, with senior government officials typically attending.

Two hundred exhibitor stands from countries as far apart as China, Turkey, Japan and Ethiopia fill the Red Sea World exhibition centre, built on the site of Djibouti's former port near Place Lagarde, when the Foire Internationale de Djibouti opens each year.

What is special

The part that makes it specific.

01

The place changes

Few events in Djibouti combine serious international trade infrastructure with hands-on craft and performance the way this fair does: exhibitors from China, France, Japan, Turkey and Ethiopia occupy a purpose-built exhibition hall on the former port site, while Afar and Somali artisans sell handwoven textiles, silverwork and pottery within the same halls and dancers perform styles blending Afar, Somali and Arabic traditions

02

The mystery stays covered

The venue itself, Red Sea World, is built directly on Djibouti's old port grounds, a physical statement of the country's identity as a shipping and logistics crossroads that the fair is designed to showcase to visiting investors
