Juayua, a Ruta de las Flores coffee town in Sonsonate department, holds its fiestas patronales throughout January in honor of the Cristo Negro, a Black Christ image that replaced Santa Lucia as the town's patron devotion sometime in the late 1700s or early 1800s, with the main day falling on January 15th. The month brings commercial fairs, the crowning of a festival queen and an amusement park alongside the religious observances.
