Air Guitar World Championships in Oulu

Air Guitar World Championships, created by musician Jukka Takalo and first held in 1996 within the Oulu Music Video Festival, is now a standalone competition each August judged on originality, stage presence, and a deliberately subjective quality called Airness. Run since 2011 by Airnest Productions under the motto Make Air Not War, it draws competitors from a global network of licensed national qualifiers.

Musician Jukka Takalo created the Air Guitar World Championships, first held in 1996 as a novelty side event within the Oulu Music Video Festival before growing into an internationally famous standalone competition held every August in Oulu under its own dedicated organization, Airnest Productions, which has run the event since 2011 and also oversees a network of licensed national qualifying championships held in various countries around the world.
