Gurjaani Wine Festival in Gurjaani
Since 2019, Gurjaani's October wine festival has grown into one of the largest and most diverse in Georgia, the Black Sea region and Eastern Europe, held with free entry in the town's forested Akhtala Park. Large wineries and small family producers pour qvevri wine and chacha side by side, backed by Kakhetian Mravalzhamieri polyphonic singing and craft vendors.
Gurjaani sits in the heart of Kakheti, a municipality responsible for nine of the roughly two dozen wines in Georgia carrying Protected Designation of Origin status, out of a country that grows more than five hundred distinct grape varieties, a genetic diversity most European wine regions cannot match.
