Nuuk Snow Festival in Nuuk/Katuaq area
Greenland's first snow festival, running since 1994 and now staged in front of Katuaq, Nuuk's cultural centre, where up to 18 teams each carve a three-metre cube of snow into a themed sculpture over several days, with free admission for visitors to watch the works take shape.
Nuuk Snow Festival began in 1994 as Greenland's first snow festival, and more than three decades on it still runs on the same basic principle: teams are each handed a three-by-three-by-three-metre cube of packed snow and given several days to carve it into a sculpture.
