Badacsony Wine Weeks in Badacsony
Held since around 1987 on Badacsony's volcanic Lake Balaton hillside, where vines have grown since Roman times, this roughly week-long summer festival pairs wine-tasting competitions and live concerts, with a recent edition rebranded BOR7 at a new lakeside site. The volcanic basalt slopes visible from the venue give the festival a striking geological backdrop unlike most Hungarian wine events.
Vines have grown on Badacsony's volcanic basalt hill above Lake Balaton since Roman times, with Emperor Probus credited by regional tradition with establishing large plantations there, and medieval vineyards on the same slopes were largely church-owned for centuries afterward.
