The story

Gourmet Festival Budapest in Budapest

Evolving from the earlier Buda Gourmet event after 2011, the Gourmet Festival at Millenaris Park, run for years by organizer Richard Nemes, has grown into Budapest's premier culinary showcase, built in its early years around single reinvented Hungarian dishes like goulash and later around broader themes ranging from women in Hungarian gastronomy to countryside cuisine, with Michelin-starred chefs and international guests among its exhibitors.

The Gourmet Festival in Budapest grew out of an earlier event known as Buda Gourmet, evolving after 2011 into a larger showcase for Hungarian chefs, restaurants and culinary personalities staged at Millenaris Park in Buda, organized for years under chief organizer Richard Nemes, who entered the gastronomy world originally as a wine advisor, and carried in recent editions under the sponsorship name MBH Bank Gourmet Fesztival.

What is special

The part that makes it specific.

01

The place changes

Early editions required every participating chef to reinvent one specific Hungarian classic dish under a single yearly theme, such as goulash or layered potato, a structured format distinguishing the festival from open-ended food festivals with no unifying culinary constraint

02

The mystery stays covered

Later editions have built themes around figures such as a mangalica pig breeder and a pastry chef celebrating women in Hungarian gastronomy, or around countryside cuisine spotlighting regional stews from named chefs, and the festival has drawn Michelin-starred names including Istvan Pesti and international guest chefs such as Spain's Dani Garcia, a former three-Michelin-star holder, alongside a growing wave of Asian-cuisine exhibitors
