Kalocsa Paprika Festival in Kalocsa

Held each third weekend of September in Kalocsa's Ersekkert park, this festival celebrates the region's Hungaricum-status paprika with a Saturday parade, the election of a Paprika Queen in folk costume, and cooking competitions ranked among Hungary's top gastronomic contests. The winning Queen makes appearances at related regional events throughout the following year.

Kalocsa paprika, ground from peppers grown in the surrounding Sarkoz region, was formally recognized as a Hungaricum in February 2014 alongside the related Kalocsa folk art tradition of embroidery, painting, and decorative writing, giving the region's signature spice official status as a piece of national cultural heritage.
