Zsolnay Light Festival in Pecs
Launched in 2016 as Hungary's first and only light festival, the Zsolnay Light Festival in Pecs projects large-scale artwork onto the facade of Pecs Cathedral each summer night through an international projection mapping competition that has drawn finalist teams from as far as Ecuador and Bulgaria, with its jubilee tenth edition drawing a record of roughly one hundred twenty thousand visitors.
Pecs hosted Hungary's first light festival in 2016, launching the Zsolnay Light Festival, organized since its founding by Zsolnay Orokségkezelo Nonprofit Kft, as the country's only event of its kind and, unusually among light festivals worldwide, scheduling its main program in summer rather than the winter timing most similar events favor elsewhere.
