Rafsanjan Pistachio Festival in Rafsanjan
Rafsanjan, in Iran's Kerman province, is the world's largest pistachio-producing city, and its autumn Pistachio Festival marks the harvest of the desert region's signature crop. Held around the September picking season, the festival brings growers, traders and visitors to orchards and market halls to celebrate the nut that has shaped the local economy for centuries, alongside displays of Kerman-style carpets woven in the surrounding villages.
Rafsanjan rises from a dry stretch of Kerman province where little grows without help, yet the surrounding plain has become the largest pistachio-producing area on earth.
