Trelawny Yam Festival in Albert Town
Trelawny's Albert Town, hub of a district growing roughly sixty percent of Jamaica's yam, has marked Easter Monday with a yam festival since 1997: yam dishes crowding the town square, a Yam King and Queen pageant, yam-balancing races and a Farmers' Field Day honoring the growers behind Jamaica's yam belt.
Albert Town's main square doubles as a stage every Easter Monday when the Trelawny Yam Festival puts the parish's signature crop, and the farmers who grow it, on public display.
