Palanga Smelt Festival in Palanga
Every February, Palanga's main street becomes an open-air fish restaurant for the Palanga Smelt festival, celebrating the Baltic smelt run with fried, smoked and pickled fish, a fishing competition, folk art fair and dance stage. Now one of Lithuania's largest winter festivals, it reveals the resort's fishing-village roots outside beach season.
Every February, long before Palanga's beaches fill with summer crowds, the seaside town turns its main pedestrian street into what organizers call the longest open-air fish restaurant in the country for the Palanga Smelt festival.
