Fete du Letchi in Toamasina/Fenoarivo Atsinanana
Fete du Letchi, also called Avy Letchi e, is an annual economic, cultural and sports festival held in Toamasina every November since 2007. It celebrates the litchi harvest that drives the economy of Madagascar's Atsinanana and Analanjirofo regions, which together grow nearly 100,000 tons of litchi a year and supply roughly 70 percent of Europe's litchi imports, drawing large crowds to the port city each season.
Toamasina sits at the heart of Madagascar's litchi economy, and each November since 2007 the port city has marked the fruit's harvest with Fete du Letchi, known locally as Avy Letchi e.
