Festival du Dibi in Bamako
Festi Dibi, the Festival du Dibi, is Mali's largest gastronomic festival, held in Bamako every year-end holiday season around Place du Cinquantenaire. It centers on dibi, sheep, goat, beef or camel meat grilled slowly over open wood fire, and gathers residents and visitors for tastings, cooking contests and live entertainment celebrating one of Mali's most important trades.
In Bamako, the smell of wood smoke and grilling meat is never far away, but for a few weeks each year-end, that everyday aroma becomes the center of a citywide festival.
