Leon Balloon Festival in Leon
Leon Balloon Festival, known formally as the Festival Internacional del Globo, is an annual hot-air balloon festival held in Leon, Guanajuato, the most populous city in the state and fourth-largest in Mexico. Generally regarded as one of the largest hot-air-balloon gatherings in Latin America, it typically takes place in November with mass balloon launches and night glow displays.
Leon, founded in 1576 as Villa de Leon and renamed in 1830 to honor the insurgent brothers Juan and Ignacio Aldama, has grown into Guanajuato state's most populous city and the fourth largest in Mexico, with a metropolitan population well over one and a half million.
