The story

IA Mania in Holercani

IA Mania is Moldova's largest festival dedicated to traditional arts and crafts, founded in 2013 to promote the handcrafted ia blouse and support the artisans who keep the tradition alive. The 12th edition, themed Return to Roots, takes place July 5, 2026 at Pensiunea Holercani in Ustia village, Dubasari district, on the banks of the Dniester, and includes a craftsmen's fair, embroidery workshops and a riverside concert.

IA Mania grew out of a specific concern: that the handcrafted ia blouse, a garment carrying centuries of Moldovan embroidery tradition, needed active support to survive as a living craft rather than fade into museum display.

What is special

The part that makes it specific.

01

The place changes

IA Mania's focus on a single garment, the ia blouse, gives it a sharper identity than a general crafts fair

02

The mystery stays covered

Rather than spreading attention across many traditions, the festival treats the ia as a living symbol of Moldovan heritage and builds its program around supporting the artisans who hand-embroider it, from market stalls to hands-on workshops teaching embroidery technique

03

The city starts moving

Its riverside setting at Pensiunea Holercani, on the banks of the Dniester in Dubasari district, adds a natural backdrop that few urban craft fairs can offer

04

The water draws everyone in

The 2026 theme, Return to Roots, underscores the event's broader mission: reconnecting younger generations with a garment and a craft tradition that might otherwise fade

05

The old stones answer

A traditional culinary competition rounds out the program, pairing food heritage with textile heritage on the same day
