Khuvsgul Ice Festival in Khatgal/Khuvsgul Lake
The Blue Pearl Ice Festival is held each early March (March 2 and 4, 2026) on the frozen surface of Lake Khuvsgul, Mongolia's largest freshwater lake by volume, in the village of Khatgal. Thousands gather for horse-sledge racing, ice skating, tug of war, ice sumo, ice carving, archery and the traditional shagai knucklebone game.
For most of the year, Lake Khuvsgul is admired from its shoreline - Mongolia's largest freshwater lake by volume, known locally as the Blue Pearl.
