Silver Reeds Ice Festival in Khovd
Silver Reeds Festival takes place on the frozen surface of Khar Us Lake in Khovd Province, typically in late January or February. Initiated to celebrate the successful return of the Dalmatian pelican through WWF Mongolia conservation efforts, the festival highlights the province's ethnic diversity through ice skating, ice shooting, marathon and camel racing, drawing more than 20,000 visitors in its most recent edition.
Khar Us Lake, in Mongolia's western Khovd Province, is one of Central Asia's important wetland systems, a shallow, reed-fringed lake that hosts migratory waterbirds moving between breeding grounds and wintering sites across the continent.
