The mountain town of Dipilto in Nueva Segovia holds its patron festival in honor of the Virgin of Guadalupe from December 9 to 12, culminating in an all-night vigil and dawn serenade at her sanctuary. Pilgrims from Nicaragua, Honduras, and El Salvador walk to the shrine to fulfill promises and give thanks for favors received.
