Gevgelija Fig Festival in Gevgelija
The Gevgelija Fig Festival is a harvest celebration in the southern border town of Gevgelija, marking the late-summer fig harvest in one of the northernmost areas of the Balkans where figs are grown commercially, a result of the warm Vardar valley microclimate. The festival features fig tastings, fig-based products such as preserves and rakija, farmers' stalls and cultural performances.
Gevgelija sits at the southern edge of North Macedonia, close enough to the Greek border and the lower Vardar valley to experience a noticeably warmer, more Mediterranean-leaning climate than most of the rest of the country.
