Shtip Pastrmajlijada in Shtip
The Shtipska Pastrmajlijada is a food festival in Shtip dedicated to pastrmajlija, a boat-shaped Macedonian bread pie topped with cured pork, cheese and egg that is believed to have originated in the Shtip, Sveti Nikole and Veles area. As the largest of the region's parallel pastrmajlija celebrations, the festival draws crowds for tastings, baking competitions among local bakeries, and live music honoring a dish tied closely to local identity.
In much of North Macedonia, pastrmajlija is treated as a national dish, sold in bakeries throughout the country as an everyday lunch item.
