Lofoten Skrei Festival in Lofoten
Lofoten's winter skrei season celebrates the mature Arctic cod that migrate each year from the Barents Sea to spawn in Lofoten's waters, sustaining the centuries-old Lofotfisket fishery. Fishing communities such as Svolvaer mark the season, roughly January through April, with fresh seafood tastings, local cooking, and the stockfish and boat-culture traditions that still define the islands each winter.
Long before any festival carried the name, the rhythm celebrated in Lofoten's skrei season was already centuries old.
