Festival de la Frutilla in Aregua
From July into September or October, Aregua and neighboring Estanzuela turn red with the strawberry harvest at the Expo Frutilla, a decades-old fair along the Mariscal Estigarribia route where growing families sell fresh berries by the kilo alongside strawberry liqueurs, empanadas, ice cream, and bonbons from stands that stay open long hours daily.
The road between Aregua and the Estanzuela area of Itaugua looks unremarkable most of the year, a stretch of the Mariscal Estigarribia route lined with modest homes and small plots.
