Cusco observes Holy Week around one of its oldest and most solemn traditions, the procession of the Senor de los Temblores, an image whose veneration nineteenth-century travelers already described as the city's principal religious festival, drawing thousands of worshippers into the Plaza de Armas as the crucifix, mounted on a silver platform and escorted by clergy, soldiers, and civic authorities, made its way from the cathedral through the city streets and back.
