Tuna Festival in General Santos
Tuna Festival is held annually in General Santos City, Mindanao's leading tuna fishing and canning hub, celebrating the city's identity as the Tuna Capital of the Philippines through trade fairs, street dance, culinary events and displays of the local catch each September around the city charter anniversary.
General Santos City, located on the southern coast of Mindanao, developed over the twentieth century into the Philippines' most significant hub for tuna fishing and processing, supported by its deep natural harbor, proximity to rich fishing grounds in the Celebes and Sulu seas, and the growth of a substantial canning and export industry that supplies both domestic consumers and international markets.
