Maio Fair Azambuja in Azambuja
The Feira de Maio de Azambuja is a five-day celebration held each spring, officially dating to 1901 as part of Portugal's general livestock and army remount markets. The 2026 edition, described as centennial in local coverage, ran from May 28 to June 1 with bull releases, equestrian activities, live concerts and over a hundred traditional tertulias across the town.
At the start of summer each year, Azambuja's streets fill with the sound of bull releases and brass bands, a combination that traces back to 1901, when the town's fair was formally folded into Portugal's national calendar of general livestock markets and army horse remounts.
