Cherry Festival Resende in Resende
Festival da Cereja spreads across two weekends in late May and early June in Resende, the self-declared capital of Portuguese cherries, whose harvest is famous for reaching European markets before any other region. The event mixes cherry sales, allegorical parades, folk music and a dedicated Rota das Cerejas rail excursion.
Resende sits on the south bank of the Douro river, a little over an hour from Porto, in a region better known internationally for port wine terraces than for fruit orchards.
