Festival de la Pina Paradisiaca in La Parguera/Lajas
Held each June in the coastal community of La Parguera in Lajas, this festival celebrates the pineapple crop grown on the surrounding hillsides of Puerto Rico's southwest coast. Local growers haul in tens of thousands of pounds of fresh fruit for sale alongside pineapple-based dishes and desserts, with regional bands performing across the weekend and free admission for all attendees.
On the southwestern edge of Puerto Rico, where the coastal plain of Lajas meets the mangrove channels of La Parguera, farmers have grown pineapple on the region's dry, sun-baked hillsides for generations, a crop suited to soil that resists many other fruits.
