Held each summer at Souq Waqif's Eastern Square, the Local Dates Festival gathers around 125 Qatari farms selling varieties including Khalas, Khunaizi, Barhi, and Shishi dates. Now past its eleventh edition, it draws tens of thousands of visitors and tonnes of dates sold within its opening days alone.

Long before air conditioning made Doha's summers survivable indoors, the date palm was the single most reliable source of food and shade across the Arabian Peninsula's harsh interior.
