Voice of the Swamp Festival in Kostroma
Kostroma region's Voice of the Swamp festival stages music and theater performances directly in the Susaninsky district marshland where, according to legend, peasant Ivan Susanin led Polish-Lithuanian invaders astray in 1613 to protect the young Tsar Mikhail Romanov. The program mixes contemporary and folk acts, theatrical marsh quests, hot air balloon rides and craft workshops, with ticket proceeds funding restoration of the historic Osipov merchant house nearby.
Domnino village stages theater in the marshland itself for Golos Bolota, or Voice of the Swamp, a music-theater festival set in the Susaninsky district of the Kostroma region, on ground tied to one of Russian folklore's most enduring patriotic legends.
