Baikal Mile Ice Speed Festival in Maksimikha
Baikal Mile is Russia's largest international ice speed festival, held on Lake Baikal's frozen surface near Maksimikha in Buryatia's Barguzin district since its 2019 debut. Roughly 70 vehicles across disciplines from rally and drifting to drag racing compete on three ice tracks measuring 1,642 meters, matching Baikal's maximum depth, with the festival's absolute speed record set by a homemade jet car, the 100Yak, at 283.766 kilometers per hour.
Lake Baikal freezes into some of the clearest, thickest ice on Earth each winter, stable enough in places to bear the weight of trucks.
