Bodrog Fest Backi Monostor in Backi Monostor
Bodrog Fest has run since 2005 on the second weekend of August in the Vojvodina village of Backi Monostor, named for a legendary medieval town said to lie beneath the Danube nearby. It centers on a fish-paprikash cooking contest called Bodroski kotlic, a horse-carriage parade called Fijakerijada, and performances by the village's Roma, Bunjevci, Sokci, and Hungarian cultural associations.
Local legend in Backi Monostor holds that a medieval town called Bodrog once stood nearby, before the Danube's shifting waters swallowed it, a story residents sometimes describe as their own version of Atlantis.
