Smederevo Autumn Festival in Smederevo
Smederevo Autumn Festival traces its roots to an 1888 grape and wine exhibition on the Danube waterfront and now runs each September with a costumed parade recreating medieval despot Djuradj Brankovic and his wife Jerina beneath Smederevo Fortress, alongside concerts and sales exhibitions of wine, honey, and fruit.
Smederevo's identity is inseparable from its fortress, the largest lowland fortification in Europe when it was completed in 1430 by Despot Djuradj Brankovic as the last capital of medieval Serbia before the Ottoman conquest.
