St. Urban Wine Festival Bratislava in Bratislava
St. Urban's Day Open Wine Cellars marks the traditional spring opening of the Little Carpathian Wine Route, when producers across roughly 20 towns and villages from Devin through Raca, Pezinok and Modra to Dolany open their cellars to visitors. Named for Saint Urban of Langres, patron of winemakers, the event pairs wine tastings with the blessing of his statues in vineyard communities near Bratislava.
Saint Urban of Langres has long been venerated across Central European wine country as the patron saint of winemakers, vintners, coopers and anyone who enjoys good wine responsibly, and tradition credits him with shielding vineyards from the late spring frosts that can devastate a season's harvest before it even begins.
