The story

LUV Fest Ljubljana in Ljubljana

LUV Fest is Ljubljana's festival of love, art, and wandering, running each year from 8 February, Slovenia's Prešeren Day, to 12 March, the date Slovenian folk tradition holds that birds get married. Now in its fourth edition, the festival brings together over 100 partners for more than 220 cultural events, exhibitions, and workshops across the Slovenian capital.

LUV Fest was conceived by Ljubljana's tourism and cultural organisers as a way to give the city's quieter late-winter weeks a coherent cultural identity, bridging two dates already meaningful in Slovenian tradition.

What is special

The part that makes it specific.

01

The place changes

LUV Fest is distinguished by the deliberate symbolism of its dates, bookended by Prešeren Day, honouring Slovenia's national poet, and the folk belief that birds pair off on 12 March, framing the entire five-week programme around themes of love, wandering, and creative renewal as winter turns to spring

02

The mystery stays covered

Its central artistic centrepiece, the light installation Brstenje, meaning Budding, gives the festival a recognisable visual anchor amid its sprawling programme of over 220 events spread across streets, museums, theatres, and hotel venues

03

The city starts moving

With more than 100 partner organisations, including hoteliers and restaurateurs offering festival-linked promotions, LUV Fest functions as much as a city-wide cultural and tourism initiative as a traditional single-venue festival, an approach recognised with third place at the 2025 European Destination of Sustainable Cultural Tourism Award
