Chuncheon Dakgalbi Makguksu Festival in Chuncheon
Chuncheon celebrates its two signature dishes, fiery stir-fried dakgalbi chicken and chilled buckwheat makguksu noodles, in a festival that began in the mid-1990s as a standalone noodle event before folding in the chicken dish. Held along the Gongjicheon stream, it now combines standardized-price tastings, eating contests, live performances, and a drone light show.
Chuncheon's culinary reputation rests on two dishes that could hardly be more different in temperature and texture: dakgalbi, chicken marinated in fiery gochujang sauce and stir-fried on a hot griddle with cabbage and rice cakes, and makguksu, chilled buckwheat noodles served cold with a tangy, spicy dressing.
