Pingtung Bluefin Tuna Cultural Festival in Donggang

Since 2001, Donggang Township in Pingtung County has held the Pingtung Bluefin Tuna Cultural Tourism Festival each May and June, timed to the Pacific bluefin tuna season at Taiwan's largest tuna port; the event opened as economic relief for local fishermen after a 1990s market downturn and now centers on a closely regulated first-catch tuna auction.
