Menzel Bouzelfa Orange Festival in Menzel Bouzelfa
Menzel Bouzelfa, a citrus town in Tunisia's Nabeul Governorate dubbed the capital of orange, has celebrated its Orange Festival every March since 1960. The event honors the maltaise orange that defines the local economy and a region producing roughly two-thirds of Tunisia's citrus. A grand parade of floats built by local institutions and youth groups opens the festivities each year.
Menzel Bouzelfa sits at the heart of the Cap Bon peninsula's citrus belt, a stretch of Nabeul Governorate that has grown oranges since French colonial-era agronomists expanded plantations across the region in the early twentieth century.
